Hi, I’m Emma – AKA Dead Girl Reads. The name started as a gaming username, loosely inspired by Rob Zombie’s Living Dead Girl, which has stuck with me since early teens. My profile picture (half skeleton, half me) from Halloween a couple of years ago seemed… fitting for the task.
Dark, a little quirky, and 100% me.
I’m a 40-something book lover from Bebington, a little corner of The Wirral. Fun local legend: our cemetery is said to have inspired C.S. Lewis’ lamppost in The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe – whether that’s true or not, it’s a neat reminder that even in small, quiet places, stories and imagination are never far away.
I share my life with two mischievous cats, Otis and Atlas, who make excellent reading companions. When I’m not curled up with a book and a mug of Yorkshire Tea, you might find me hitting the road on a geocaching adventure, exploring new places and discovering hidden treasures… or dusting off my Xbox controller, if I can remember how to play.
My bookshelf is a little chaotic, but I tend to gravitate toward:
- Fantasy / Epic Fantasy / Romantasy
- Thriller & Mystery
- Horror (psychological or Gothic)
- Literary fiction with a twist
- Historical Fiction
- True Crime
Some of my favourite authors include Terry Pratchett (Discworld forever!), Sarah J. Maas, Ben Aaronovitch (Rivers of London is an all-time favourite), and Maria V. Snyder (Poison Study will always have a special place in my heart).
I created this blog to scream (sometimes literally) about the books that break me, thrill me, or make me question my life choices. Expect honest reviews, plenty of snark, deep feelings, and the occasional bookish rant.
